Accessibility

Rescuezu department sites, the admin and this website are built to WCAG 2.2 AA. What that means, what we have not done yet, and how to report a problem.

Last updated October 22, 2026

Fire and rescue departments serve everyone in their community, so their websites should work for everyone too.

Our target

Rescuezu department sites, the Rescuezu admin and this website are built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.

What that means in practice

  • Every template uses semantic page structure, readable contrast and visible keyboard focus.
  • Every photo upload prompts for alt text, so images make sense to people using screen readers.
  • Forms have labels, and errors are announced.
  • Animation is reduced or turned off when a visitor asks their device for reduced motion.
  • The 911 notice is real text, not an image, on every page.

What we have not done yet

We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so this is a target we design and build to, not a certified conformance claim. Content a department writes or uploads, such as photos without good alt text or documents in other formats, can also fall short of the standard; the admin prompts for alt text, but the department decides what to publish.

When we learn of a problem we fix it in the shared templates, so the fix reaches every department’s site.

Report a problem

If something on a Rescuezu site or on this website is hard to use, email accessibility@rescuezu.com. Include the page address and what happened. We will reply within five business days.

If the problem is with a department’s own content, we will let the department know and help it fix it.
